While dewatering remains WJ’s core expertise, we have also drilled hundreds of water supply and geothermal boreholes worldwide. Recently, WJ UAE completed a prestigious contract by DEWA (Dubai Electricity and Water Authority) and installed new water supply wells across four inland locations.
The scope of works includes the installation, development, commissioning, and testing of 65 wells, each 92m deep, at four desert sites. These wells will contribute to an environmentally friendly solution, supplying fresh, natural water to Dubai’s existing water ring-main, which serves a population of 3.3 million.
Drilling in challenging conditions is second nature to WJ’s highly skilled team, but this project presented unique obstacles. Working in the desert required adapting to extreme heat and dry conditions, as well as dealing with the curious local wildlife—particularly camels, which have added an unusual twist to site security measures!
Despite these challenges, the project has progressed smoothly, with all wells completed early of 2024.
