The Soilmec SM14 rigs are multipur- pose rotary drilling rigs with a 4-way turnable mast that makes it extremely versatile. At 14 tonnes they are compact and light enough to access most construction sites, whilst having the power required to drill in excess of 70m depth. WJ Groundwater typically use the SM14 rig for drilling up to 400mm diameter boreholes for installing deepwells. The dewatering wells are fitted with 150mm or 200mm diameter PVC wellscreen. The rig is also ideal for installing monitoring wells commonly installed in 150mm diameter boreholes with a 50mm diameter PVC wellscreen. The rig has many options including drilling with tri-cone, core barrel and down the hole hammer (DTH) and can drill vertically and at inclines.
