Project Overview

Al Ain Cement Quarry Water Transfer Header

Al Ain Cement Factory is one of the leading manufacturing units of cement and clinker in the UAE, producing 3.1 million metric tons of clinker and 4.6 million metric tons of cement every year since it started full operation in 2014. The company produces cement and clinker products for domestic needs, which are used in building projects ranging from the increasing demand for small and large urban housing projects to highly sophisticated infrastructure projects all over the UAE, as well as neighboring countries.

WJ Middle East has made considerable investment in technology originally developed within the Construction industry for the study of waterlogged quarries and applied the same to provide enhanced understanding of the local geology. We have carried out engineering analysis and simulation of the proposed system to optimize the design.

Al Ain Cement Quarry Water Transfer

Requirements

  • Design, installation and maintenance of over pumping systems for 2no. adjacent quarries.
  • Design, installation and maintenance of water discharge system
  • Operation and Maintenance

Equipment & Manpower

  • 3 nos. high-capacity high flow diesel pumps
  • 1 km of HDPE local discharge network.
  • Full time Operation and Maintenance

Scope of Works

The scope involves removing water from 2 no. of quarry sites to enable extraction of raw materials for cement production. All associated construction works must be carried out in relatively dry and very safe conditions; high capacity over pumping systems have been utilized to achieve this goal.

Project Execution

This site posed the biggest challenge for WJ’s team on the Al Ain Cement factory project. For the further excavation and extraction, the contractor had to execute the excavation – nearly 30m-40m below existing ground level. To make this possible water had to be extracted not only from near the excavation pit, but also the water table had to be lowered behind sites of fissured rocks, to allow uninterrupted works at site.
